Is it really that unheard of for a major world-wide war to last one hundred years? How long to wars on your worlds last?

OOC: Sensitive topic warning- this thread with Minerva ([livejournal.com profile] corkscrewcurls) involves discussion of genocide and the Holocaust.

Four thousand years.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
... Now that sounds a bit excessive. What sort of war is it?

[identity profile] 8fingerswhiskey.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They sure as shit don't last 100 years!

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What causes them to end so quickly?

[personal profile] pandorabox 2009-03-09 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Longest war in history on my world actually lasted 116 years.

It's not so much the duration as the fact that they continue to take place.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. So the wars don't accomplish much, then?

[identity profile] corkscrewcurls.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
that depends on what's being fought over.

One could argue the war over religion hasn't and probably will never end.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Does the "war" over religion involve armies and battles, or is it merely theoretical?

The longest war - pre-ShinRa, was probably several hundred years in span.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Have there been any wars "post-ShinRa"?

[identity profile] gritode-guerra.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Grudge wars tend to last longer than that. Small in scale, but when someone is fighting for more than two hundred years, it's hardly small, is it?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on how many it affects.

My world is essentially the same as Kaito's.

Four million years, and any Autobot who tries to tell you it's over is delusional.

Such would depend on the war.

Some events listed by other members of this forum above have occurred within my own reality's history.

Perhaps the more pertinent question would be, how long would peace happen to last upon these many worlds?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't the question I was asking, however.

[identity profile] eboshimustdie.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Try since the beginning of human-kind.

((...I don't know if San's still blocked or not but...:|))

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course you would say that.

OOC: She's not; I never know how long blocks are supposed to last, so I just make them entry-specific. XD So outside of the entry that she was blocked in, she's good.

[identity profile] oncethebeloved.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
The longest was over three hundred years, but that was almost seven hundred years ago.

Modern technology places wars in under ten years, but the effects are as devastating as any long-drawn out war.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What sort of technology? Guns?
