Is it really that unheard of for a major world-wide war to last one hundred years? How long to wars on your worlds last?

Have there been any wars "post-ShinRa"?

I assume you mean after ShinRa was established. There was the Midgar-Wutai war, in which we invaded the nation of Wutai and then most recently what we dub the Midgar-JENOVA war.

Wutai fell in under three years, and the Midgar-JENOVA war was over in six months.
