The End to a Good Day

All things considered, Azula's day had been quite satisfying- both in business and otherwise. All advancements of the troops were going as planned, and no unexpected setbacks had arisen- quite an unusual occurrence for the past few weeks. War matters aside, the (strictly rationed) leisure time that she had allowed herself had gone well, too. Ty Lee asking permission to come for a visit was... well, "the icing on the cake", so to speak.

When Princess Azula was in a good mood, it was usually easy to tell- she might not have shown it on her face or in her words, but the number of traumatized-looking servants tended to decrease dramatically. Today, she had only managed to completely petrify one- a new girl, who hadn't been around long enough to realize that idle threats of scorched hands for not heating the bathwater enough were par for the course in Azula's wing of the palace.

It was peculiar, really- that another person could affect Azula's mood this much. Ordinarily she might have frowned upon it, but tonight... it didn't really matter.

"Hm." She exhaled heavily.

Ty Lee felt it, but did nothing more. Her breath was steady and slow.

"... You're staying here, I presume?" She remembered the last time she had asked that. Ty Lee had said yes, but when Azula had woken...

SHe looked puzzled for a moment and yawned sleepily. "Huh? Oh, yeah. 'Course."

Azula tightened her grip, just slightly. "Are you sure? No suicide missions that you have to go sneaking out to?" Her tone was only half-joking.

Ty Lee yawned again, shaking her head. "Azula..." She drew the word out slightly, partly with sleepiness and partly with annoyance. "I'm staying here." As if to assure here honesty, she pressed closer and tried laying her head on Azula's shoulder. However, she missed it.

Wordlessly, Azula shifted, sliding her shoulder under Ty Lee's head and, once again, resting her cheek against the other girl's forehead.

Once again, she yawned and her breath started to come easy and slow again.

Azula gazed down at the girl lying against her, frowning slightly. She traced her left eyebrow with a finger.

TY Lee looked up slightly, mildly surprised at what the other girl was doing.

Azula's eyes flicked away from Ty Lee's; her finger stuttered, then dropped.

Ty Lee didn't take much notice and closed her eyes.

She stroked Ty Lee's hair lightly, brushing the bangs away from her face.

She shivered slightly, then was still. It was clear she was falling asleep.

Azula pressed a kiss to Ty Lee's forehead, pulling the blankets more securely around both of their shoulders.

Ty Lee wouldn't leave.

Ty Lee gave a mild sigh of satisfaction.

It was curious, really- how... nice this was. Really, Ty Lee could do this any time she liked.

Ty Lee nestled closer, giving a light sigh and murmured something in her sleep.

"Mmzula, you smell good."

She raised an eyebrow slightly. "Well, I usually wear a dash of perfume. And I just had a bath earlier." Azula doubted there was much point to talking to someone who was asleep, but she didn't mind.

"Mmm." She shifted slightly in her sleep again, nuzzling Azula's neck as she did so.
