Hm. Paris is extremely lovely.

Interesting how they assume that everyone is familiar with this "baseball" game- though I suppose the person who wrote that wasn't taking any worlds other than their own into consideration. From the context, I'm assuming that this "getting to first base" idea is an important part of the game? Is it how you win?

Not that I'm really interested in the sport, of course; I suppose I'm just a bit curious.

OOC: ... I'm sorry. I saw that Writer's Block a couple of days ago and couldn't resist. :\

This particular subject is one you tend to not want to talk about.

...unless you really do want to learn about baseball.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say that I want to learn about it. I'm just slightly curious about why it's considered so important on whatever world this question originated from.

... That's what the question is about, isn't it? What else would I be talking about?
oceanicbutterfly: (hmm)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...That's what it starts out talking about, but then it switches over to popular slang terminology. "Getting to first base" means kissing.

At any rate, baseball is a popular sport in many countries, including some that are very powerful and influential. Even if it really doesn't exist in your world, I'd be surprised if you didn't have something similar. Do you have a game that involves throwing a ball towards someone who hits it with a stick?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
... I am aware of the metaphor. That isn't what this question was referring to, however.

It seems to be a fairly simple concept, so I wouldn't be surprised if children play some sort of similar game. It doesn't exist in any organized fashion, though.
oceanicbutterfly: (awkward)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
While it's possible the question is purely about baseball, it's more likely that the question is about one's first kiss, and the initial text is just a lead-in.

Wouldn't be surprised? You never did anything like that?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ridiculous. The initial text isn't presented as a lead-in.

No.
oceanicbutterfly: (tea)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
What would you call it, then?

...what did you do?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, let me rephrase that. It's not presented as a lead-in to a different topic.

What do you mean? I did lots of things.
oceanicbutterfly: (tea)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a play on words of sorts.

You're giving the impression that you avoided things that other children did. I'm curious as to whether that's true, and if so, what you did instead.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that it is.

I didn't say that at all.
oceanicbutterfly: (heh)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Then by all means, feel free to explain to everyone how unlikely it is that you will ever get to home.

But is it true?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
... Pardon?

Not really, no. I mean, as royalty I obviously didn't do a lot of the things that common children did, but many of the similarities were there.
oceanicbutterfly: (hmm)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
...if someone has explained the euphemism to you, then surely you know what "home" implies.

And you would have been with Ty Lee and Mai, right?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
... From that comment, I can guess. And I assure you, I have no desire to "get to home" at the present moment.

... Yes.
oceanicbutterfly: (smirk)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is quite reasonable of you. But the idea that it would never happen would have entirely different implications.

Just them?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
... Of course it'll happen. I can't leave my family without any honorable heirs, after all.

And Zuko.
oceanicbutterfly: (heh)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't doubt it. But we'll see what people think you mean.

...right, him. I haven't seen him around lately. So you used to associate with him?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you talking about?

... On occasion.
oceanicbutterfly: (business)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you forget how we got on this subject? I was implying that, if you claimed you would never "get to home," people would more likely interpret your statement as referring to that than to baseball.

...and now you two are like this.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
And what does that have to do with anything?

Your point?
oceanicbutterfly: (ashamed)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...now I've forgotten.

I'm not making one.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Typical.

Regardless, if I were to use either use of the phrase at home, nobody would have the slightest idea what I was talking about.

Then why bring it up at all.
oceanicbutterfly: (tasty)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
...now I remember. We were talking about the question, and I was saying that it probably made sense to most people for it to mean "first base" in the euphemistic sense.

What's your point?

...just making an observation. It's sad.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not on my world.

Exactly what it sounds like.

No, it isn't.
oceanicbutterfly: (business)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
On your world, they wouldn't think of baseball either, so it doesn't matter.

So, nothing?

You're brother and sister. It's not right for things to have turned out the way they did.
