[Azula's walking quickly and purposefully through the Vatican, not stopping for anything or anyone-- she knows exactly where she's going, and she isn't going to let anyone keep her from getting there, no matter what]

[Lilith is quiet as she absorbs the message. That rosary in her hands feels even heavier. What Azula says brings to light some truths that had been slipping from her sight since this happened. The last time she left ended the war. Unfortunately it left everyone surviving to fend for themselves which didn't work out too well.]

... You are both right. I apologize. Saying things lie that in front of you is inexcusable.

Exactly. You survived it with Cain so you know you're capable. It's not fair that you have to do it again, but you can.

[Azula's stroking her hair, hoping that she's saying the right things]

Just close your eyes for now. Please. You can think about all this tomorrow.

[Zuko feels unnecessary, extraneous, like there's no reason for him to be here. But he's never let that feeling stop him from doing what he felt he had to., so he says quietly,] You can have one night just to think about him.

And then we'll help you with tomorrow. Whatever you need.

[Lilith nods. For the first time in her life, she feels like a child. It was strange considering the fact she never had a childhood. She shuts her eyes just as Azula requested and lets out a shuddering sigh. It wouldn't be fair for her to lean on them. She wanted to be the one they could lean on no matter what. And yet she was crying again without even realizing it.]

Tomorrow would be best to think things through. Thank you for your help. You're both so good. I feel so fortunate to have you.

[Azula continues stroking her fingers through Lilith's hair, every once in a while brushing her fingertips across her cheek, wiping away the tears]

Don't even think about him. Think about things that make you...

[she trails off]

You can't be rational right now. But you don't need to be, [he settles on saying, taking another step closer. With a quick, wary glance at Azula, he reaches out to rest a hand on Lilith's arm.] It's just us.

I've always been someone to be relied on. Without Abel I... [she sighs softly.] feel like a lost child.

Because you need your family.

[Azula rests her cheek against Lilith's, hand still on her hair]

[She met both of their eyes, smiling.]

No I cannot but, I still have family left to live for. Seth, you, and Zuko... no matter what happens I'll find a way back to all of you.

I won't let anything happen.

[her voice is quiet; almost a whisper]

I promise. I'll always be on your side. I promise that you're not alone.

[Once again, he didn't need to add anything to this, just tightening his grip on Lilith's shoulder slightly.]

[Lilith nods, eyes going to the rosary in her hands.] Did you know this originally belonged to me?

Did you give it to him?

[still listening silently]

No. He took it from me after the war ended. I never had the heart to take it back from him.

[she knows what happened "after the war ended"; that paired with her earlier words hinting at wanting to die send a shudder through Azula]

[she leans up, perching her chin on Lilith's shoulder and resting her forehead against her cheek, the grip of her arms around her tightening]

I'm sure he'd want it to be with you again.

He would. [She smiles fondly.] Those who protect the world wear this rosary.

I hope many, many years from now I can pass it on to one of you.

[Azula refrains from pointing out that it can't be Zuko, because ~~she'd be jealous~~ he destroys the world rather than protecting it]

... You should sleep.

As long as it's many, many years, [Zuko mutters to himself, backing up a step to give Lilith and Azula personal space again.

Then he nods at her.] Yeah, you should sleep. We'll make sure nothing happens.

[Lilith nods before placing that rosary on around her neck.] Please call me if anything does.

I won't need to call. I'm staying right here.

[snuggles further down next to Lilith as if to prove her point, still keeping both her arms wrapped around her]

...It's fine. I'll watch the door.

[Honestly, he wouldn't know what to do if he did stay. No matter how much he cared for Lilith, this was all so foreign to him, and he was still reeling from that virus. Zuko slipped out the door without waiting for a response, closing it behind him; he folded his arms and propped himself on the wall next to it.

This was concrete, a real task to be doing. He'd make sure no one disturbed them, and he'd keep an eye on the community while they slept.]

Thank you, Zuko. [She didn't like having him leave but, these situations would never be comfortable to Zuko even if all was right with the world. Lilith sank down in the bed with Azula. She was tired.]

And thank you, Azula. I know this must be hard for you. You cared for him too.
