(no subject)

Is it really that unheard of for a major world-wide war to last one hundred years? How long to wars on your worlds last?

OOC: Sensitive topic warning- this thread with Minerva ([livejournal.com profile] corkscrewcurls) involves discussion of genocide and the Holocaust.

Four thousand years.

[identity profile] thelastsolidor.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Too long.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
... Now that sounds a bit excessive. What sort of war is it?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite agree.

[identity profile] 8fingerswhiskey.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They sure as shit don't last 100 years!

[personal profile] pandorabox 2009-03-09 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Longest war in history on my world actually lasted 116 years.

[identity profile] doomedyouth00.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not so much the duration as the fact that they continue to take place.

[identity profile] corkscrewcurls.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
that depends on what's being fought over.

One could argue the war over religion hasn't and probably will never end.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What causes them to end so quickly?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Describe this war.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. So the wars don't accomplish much, then?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Does the "war" over religion involve armies and battles, or is it merely theoretical?

[personal profile] pandorabox 2009-03-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It was called the Hundred Years War, and it was fought between England and France in order to establish who had rights to the French throne.

Or something. That's what is says in my history book.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The longest war - pre-ShinRa, was probably several hundred years in span.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Was this recent?

[identity profile] corkscrewcurls.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A fair bit of both, I would say.

At the moment, everything is... mostly calm.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Have there been any wars "post-ShinRa"?

[personal profile] pandorabox 2009-03-09 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Heck no. Neither France or England operate under monarchies anymore. It started in 1337 and ended in 1453.

[identity profile] breakhisknees.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The kind where the fate of humanity rests in the balance. You know that kind of thing.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. And how long has it been since the last notable war?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And the year for you now is...?

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume you mean after ShinRa was established. There was the Midgar-Wutai war, in which we invaded the nation of Wutai and then most recently what we dub the Midgar-JENOVA war.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2009-03-09 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
2009!

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What does it involve?

[identity profile] thelastsolidor.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
If you forgive my honesty, I highly doubt it is for the same reason.
