Isn't Christmas over a month away? Why is everyone talking about it already?

It's all over Earth, too. I never bothered to ask last year; is it a national or a worldwide holiday?

Because everyone else starts ridiculously early like this. Besides, a few of my gifts I'm actually getting personalized so I need to give the guy plenty of time to do his job.

Why do you care so much? You can give people presents anytime.

...Maybe :|

Well, the whole point of Christmas is giving presents so... Sure you can give them any time, but it's just more... Special this time of year.

What? That's a good present.

Because... Uh. Some old dead guys said so. Because Jesus was evidently born that day and the three wise men brought him presents. It's a really happy joyous day. And people decorate their houses and such. I'm not even part of the religion and I still like it.

"Christianity" is the religion. "Christians" are the ones who follow it. It was founded by a guy called Jesus "Christ" which is why the holiday is called "Christmas".

How many religions does Earth have?

[identity profile] touchofgenius.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
A whole fucking lot. The five main ones are Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. And there are a lot more smaller ones. Not to mention sects of the big five. That's one of the main reasons we have so many wars here, actually.

Is "Judaism" the same as "Jewish"?

[identity profile] touchofgenius.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Someone who's Jewish practices Judaism. The only religion that doesn't follow a similar naming pattern is Islam; Muslims are the ones who practice that, not Islamists or something like that.

Why do they bother having so many?
