Food {BACKDATED TO 4/12/09}

As a princess, Azula was used to being respected-- worshipped, even. She was used to people doing things for her, often without her even needing to ask. What she was not used to, however was people doing things for her out of the kindness of their own hearts. So naturally, she was a bit suspicious when Kasumi-- a random community member; one who wasn't even from her world-- offered to cook an elaborate meal for her. Expecting respect from an acquaintance was one thing. Large favors, however, were an entirely different story. Off-worlders usually had to be threatened for those.

Despite her cynicism, Azula was in her room and waiting at the time she had told Kasumi to arrive. She was fully-dressed, and her hair set perfectly in its usual topknot, crown in place. Normally she wore her robe in the privacy of her own room, but when expecting a visitor-- any visitor-- there was no reason to be anything less than perfect.

The food was backed in bento boxes and arranged in an Eastern style; Kasumi sincerely hoped Princess Azula wouldn't mind, she hadn't had anything else to carrying them in. They weren't that heavy, just a little awkward to carry on her own.

Oh, it was a palace! Extravagant but elegant all the same...and the princess was right there. Quickly, a little flustered for staring instead of greeting her right away, Kasumi bowed deeply to Azula-sama. "Thank you for allowing me into your home."

(Her housedresses truly could never compare to anyone else's cloths, could they?)

"Your welcome." Azula's voice was calm and even; it betrayed no emotion. "You brought enough for two, then, as I requested?" Then she remembered that Kasumi had been planning to make some for herself. "Or three, I suppose."

Kasumi rose from her bow and smiled. "For you and whoever you like, Princess Azula. I am content, thank you."

Father had insisted upon eating dinner before she went anywhere, after spending so many hours in the kitchen making this food and theirs.

"Where would you like me to set it up?"

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah." She gestured to her desk, where space had been cleared. "Here would be fine."

Sorry it took so long, looking up the food list--

Kasumi bowed again, and bent to pick up one of the two towering boxes. They were usually used for picnics, but with as much food as had been requested, these had been the only containers that worked.

It was perhaps good that she'd brought plates. There didn't seem to be any here for her.

It took a few minutes, and she worked quietly, but soon the first course of rice and vegetables was laid out neatly for two.

She hadn't been able to find any turtleduck, and hoped the princess would not mind.

"Princess, would you prefer chopsticks or forks and knives?" she asked. "I brought both, if you need them."

No problem!

"Chopsticks, please," she said immediately.

Kasumi bowed her head and brought out her best pair. "Which side as you sitting on, if I may ask?" She'd laid everything out evenly, but Azula-sama deserved the better pair of chopsticks.

"I'll be sitting at the desk chair." If Ty Lee-- or Mai; she planned on offering the extra food to whichever one of them showed up first-- dropped by, they could pull up a chair alongside the desk.

"As you say, Princess Azula." She set the chopsticks on their rests and turned back to her. "Is your companion close by? Perhaps I should fetch them."

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"That won't be necessary." Azula stood herself, striding towards the door.

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kasumi bowed her understanding. "Shall I await you here?"

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you wish."

Less than a minute later, Azula returned not with a friend, but with a servant. "The food taster," she explained, nodding to Kasumi."

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Kasumi bowed to him as well. "Thank you for your service," and to Azula, "I hope it is to your taste."

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll see," she said.

The servant took a bite (using the extra set of chopsticks), and waited a minute or so. Then, he nodded. "It is safe, Princess."

"Very good." Azula sounded pleased. She hadn't really expected the food to be poisoned, but it was better to be safe than sorry. "You are dismissed." She waved the man away.

i-is someone actually coming 8D

Kasumi bowed him out of the room, as was only polite. "Would you like anything to drink, princess?" There was only food on the table.

Not unless Mai or Ty Lee's player shows up and wants in XD

"I'll pass," she said evenly.

I'm gunna have to Brb to class in a few, but I should be back in three hrs~

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, princess." She nodded her head and took a position to the side, staying within Azula-sama's line of sight. This person was a martial artist, of course, and it would not do to try and surprise her in any sort of way.

After a few moments of silence, Kasumi asked, "How have you been, if I may ask?"

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quite well." Given some of the events of the past few weeks that wasn't entirely true, but she wasn't going to admit that.

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Kasumi smiled to herself, turning her head at such an angle that Azula-sama couldn't see. With this one, she must not allow herself outward concern. "That is good to hear. Your duties must keep you busy, princess, being the ruler now."

Small talk was best.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She frowned slightly. "I'm not 'the ruler now'. My father will be returned to his normal state soon enough; I'm not stealing the throne from him."

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"My apologies. I was not aware of the situation." She bowed her head. "He is sick?"

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"You could say that." She took another chopstickful of rice.

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope he gets better, then." She'd talked to him, once; he reminded her of father before mother had died.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She waved a hand. "He will."

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am sure he has the finest doctors."
