(no subject)

I won't be staying here for very long. I have a country to run, after all, and my father can't keep me from that.

{LOCKED FROM OZAI}

To any doctors on the community-- has your world developed any methods for treating burns that my world (or Larsa Solidor's word, for that matter) might not be familiar with? I can take care of it myself, of course, but I'd like to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I'm a doctor.

I don't have any magical ways of treating burns, but I have some ointment that would deal with the pain and promote healing if you wish.

If they're very serious, all I can recommend is skin grafts.

I have my own ointment.

"Skin grafts"? That doesn't mean what I think it means, does it?

It probably means exactly what you think it means.

The burns are no where near that serious.

...

Doctors on your world can do that sort of thing?

Well, I'm glad to hear that, then. It sounds like they're more painful than serious.

Yes, we can. Why do you ask?

Precisely.

It's interesting.

Is it? It's a very routine sort of procedure here.

I'm Stein, by the way. You're a princess?

Where do you get the excess skin?

I am Princess Azula of the Fire Nation.

From another part of the body, usually the legs.

I'm pleased to meet you, Princess. I should say I'm Doctor Franken Stein of Death City.

So you remove skin from one part of the body to make up for damage on another part? That seems more than a bit counter productive.
screwloose: (Is that so?)

It's not counterproductive, because the skin covering the burns helps prevent infection in the damaged tissue underneath, while the places where it's cut from are healthy and can heal on their own.

We don't use it if it's minor damage, but a really bad burn goes deep into the muscle underneath, and that flesh is very susceptible to infection when it's burned.

Ah, I see. How much skin do you remove from the healthy area, then?

Depends on how much area is badly burned enough to need to be covered. Obviously we use as little as possible.

How did you get burned, if you don't mind me asking?

I refused to apologize to my father for something that I didn't do.

Well, he sounds like a loving father, anyway.

I don't require a loving father.
