Death (Except Not Really)

OOC: Aftermath of this.

Azula had never considered her own death before- not seriously, at any rate. The possibility that she would die in battle had never crossed her mind (why would it, when she spent most of her time fighting a ragtag group of children?), but then again, she had to admit that she had never been able to see herself withering away and dying of old age; going without a fight.

Quietly, Azula took stock of her situation. After Richard had left and she had collapsed, her legs (which were, of course, still frozen to the ground) had almost been wrenched out of their sockets by her fall. Her arms, too, had hit the ground rather hard, and this time she hadn't been able to keep from crying out quite loudly. His parting gift- an iceball straight to the gut- left her with an unsettlingly sharp pain in her stomach that hurt more than anything else when she tried to move even just the slightest bit. She didn't want to know what that was all about. Her only comfort was the reminder that her opponent had been seriously injured himself- she doubted that he would recover from her attack.

It really wasn't a bad day- it was quite nice out, actually. The sun was shining. The grass was soft. There were worse places to die, really.

Azula was alone. No one was coming for her; no one even knew she was here, save from that one kitchen boy who had seen her heading out- and it wasn't as if he was going to come searching for her when she didn't return.

The virus would probably have worn off by the time her funeral took place. She wondered if Ty Lee would go.

OOC: And FYI- she's not really going to die (I can't even read deathfic most of the time), she just thinks she is. If no one shows up to rescue her then I'll... figure something out? XD

"No..." She wished at least one of her arms was usable.

OOC: Not at all. :)

If Karen wasn't there...Ty Lee gave Azula's cheek a light stroke with her thumb. "It doesn't matter, then, Azula."

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm." Except for the pain of... well, everything, really, things didn't seem that unusual. The fact that she was outside wasn't registering much- Ty Lee was the only thing she was really aware of anymore.

Karen had finished with the second splint, which meant it was time for the hard part. She looked up, saying "Ty Lee, what..."

A sudden wave of jealousy interrupted her train of thought. I'll never be as close to her as Ty Lee is. She tried to put that out of her head, with thoughts like I didn't think I'd ever be friends with Rin either and I shouldn't care, it's just a virus after all and it's not like she trusts Ty Lee either, she's just used to her, but it didn't help.

Karen swallowed and tried again. "Ty Lee, what do you think we should do about her legs?"

"Leave them alone," Azula muttered in response to the floating, distant-sounding voice that she thought she had heard coming from somewhere...

"I'm not quite sure." To be honest, Ty Lee never thought about that. "Maybe we can break the ice or something...splint the legs, too, maybe."

"Azula, just don't argue, alright?"

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't want..." Her voice trailed off, and her head lolled to the side. She was still breathing; just unconscious.

"Azula-hime, can you hear me? Azula-hime?" Karen was starting to calm down now, so she didn't panic like when Azula blacked out earlier, but there was still a brief moment during which she was certain the girl would never wake up. At least she'll finally sit still, she thought.

"I guess we could chip away at it with these," Karen said, holding up the scissors from the first aid kit. "Check the kit and see if you see anything else that could work."

[identity profile] hotpinkaura.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
"She's tired," Ty Lee quietly said, gently lifting Azula's head off her lap and onto the ground. She looked at the first aid kit warily. "Alright...but let me try something first."

She got up, walked to Azula's feet and sat down. Looking at it, Ty Lee sighed and gave the block of ice a forceful punch. She grimaced, shook her hand to dull the pain. "Um...I'll look through the kit."

Tik. Tik. Tik. The scissors hitting the ice made an odd sound. Tik. Tik. Tik. Tik. Tikcrumble. A small piece of ice fell off, revealing... slightly more of Azula's leg. They'd need to work faster than this, but at least it was something. Tik. She wondered if they could do it faster somehow. Did the first aid kit have matches or anythi--

"Out of the three of us," Karen muttered, "it would be the firebender who's unconscious."

Ty Lee looked through the bag at a quick pace but had to pause often to look at something. Some of it recognized but some...Boxes with labels she couldn't read. Bags out of stuff she didn't recognize.

"Um..I don't know what half this stuff is. Maybe some of it could help but...um. I don't know."

...of course. Everything was labeled in a language that probably didn't even exist in this world.

"All right, you take the scissors," Karen said, holding out the mentioned tool. "I'll search the kit."

Azula came too groggily; confusedly. Where was she? It was freezing. She was shivering violently, though her forehead was wet with sweat. And why couldn't she feel her legs.

Voices faded in and out of her range of hearing, but it sounded like gibberish to her. Someone was waving around some sort of metal tool- a knife, maybe? They were going to kill her, and she couldn't even make a move to defend herself.

[identity profile] hotpinkaura.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ty Lee took the scissors from Karen. "Sorry. I'll take the scissors." Gently, she started to chip at the ice. Then she noticed Azula was waking up. Ty Lee didn't take much notice of that.

She thought she heard Ty Lee's voice. Ty Lee was going to kill her? Of course, the virus must have worn off, and must have remembered...

But then she thought she heard Zuko's voice, and Zuko wasn't even in the country. She thought she heard her grandfather's voice, and he was dead. Was she dead? Did that mean Zuko was dead? And Ty Lee?

... Maybe no one was there at all. She thought she could feel someone working at her feet, and on her arm, but she didn't bother telling them to stop.

"No problem." CPR barrier, bandages, gauze, tweezers, another roll of tape, asprin, something shiny and flexible that was shrinkwrapped, various types of ointment, the other splints...

It looked like the best tool available was the flashlight. She picked it up and went back to the ice.
