Azula and Relationships

So I've been trying to work up the motivation to make a relationship post for months now, but it just hasn't been coming to me. Finally, I've decided just to only go into detail about the general stuff, because for the most part, her opinions of the people here can be lumped into some pretty specific groups (pretty much the only exceptions are Ozai and Ursa, who have their own separate parental!issues categories all to themselves). All of these are OOC-- that is, she doesn't ICly have a "people I like" list or anything like that. Also, as a general rule, it is very hard to tell which characters belong on which categories. Some of them switch around a lot, and her behavior towards people really isn't all that indicative of their placing. She can be an absolute bitch to someone on her "like" list, and then turn around and be perfectly civil with someone she vehemently dislikes. Her treatment of them depends more on the situation and her mood, or any special circumstances going on with the individual at the time.

Azula on liking people

When Azula likes someone, it doesn't necessarily mean that she considers them a friend, or even actually cares about them. The best analogy that I can come up with is that she likes them in the sort of detached way that you like a favorite character on a TV show that you really only watch when you're bored. It's an interesting enough show, but it doesn't really grab your attention for one reason or another. And if that favorite character has something bad happen to them, you might have a quick negative or surprised reaction, but you won't be emotionally invested enough to really care all that much. Still, these are the people that she's most likely to accept favors from or do favors for, or just generally not mind spending time with.

Azula on disliking people

These are the people that tease her regularly, or do things to annoy her (whether it's on purpose or not). Sometimes people who have done something more serious somehow end up on this list (such as Maraich, who tried to blow her up, or Eboshi, who shot her), but that's mostly if their attacks were a one-time thing, or didn't cause her that much harm in the first place. On the whole, though, she dislikes people who have worked against her in some way more than she dislikes the rest of the people on this list, and it therefore probably has the largest range out of all the categories (from mild irritation to extreme dislike).

Azula on hating people

Surprisingly, Azula doesn't really feel extreme burning hatred for very many people at all-- for people that she says she hates, it's really more of just a severe dislike. For her to hate you, you have to pose a consistent, significant threat, and what's more, it has to be personal somehow. It's difficult to get her close enough to feel such strong emotions for someone, and that goes for negative emotions as well as positive ones.

... Seriously, that's actually it. Not even the Avatar gets a place on this list-- from what she's seen she doesn't really have anything against him as a person; she's working to kill him because he's in her way, not because she hates him. And while she does hate Ursa (and sometimes Ozai), that's a more deep and complicated kind of hate that doesn't really fit in with this category.

Azula on neutrality

These are just the people that she doesn't have much of a personal opinion of one way or another. There's not much to say about this list, really (other than to point out that most of the people in the comm are on it, even though I'm only listing people she's talked to more than once or twice :P).

Azula on caring about people

This is really complicated, and probably deserves an essay all by itself. XD Probably the most important thing to mention, though, is that she'll actually try to do things right for the people on this list-- either some of the time, most of the time, or all of the time. At this point in time, it's pretty difficult to get Azula to care about someone new for a variety of reasons, but due to in-game events it's a tiny bit easier than it used to be (emotional vulnerability yay). Mai and Ty Lee were pretty much grandfathered in because she grew up with them, but all the time that she's been on the community, no one else has even come close to getting this far-- except for Cuddy, who ninja'd herself in there somehow.

Obviously, there's plenty of little nuances and details within the categories-- not to mention reasons why certain characters are on the lists that they are.
