Father has informed me that he has found someone who looks to be a promising match for me. We'll be meeting with him and his family tomorrow to discuss possible proceedings.

I can think of an infinite number of things that I would rather do.

I don't know what sort of delusions you all hold about how this sort of thing works in the Fire Nation, but I will be the Fire Lord. Anyone that I marry will be my subordinate.

To the extent that you'll be able to just do whatever you want, with whoever you want, without reprisal?

I suspect things won't work out as you expected.

Men who marry women in positions of power are often expecting to gain that power for themselves. Anyone intelligent enough to be mistaken for a match for you would be clever enough that, for you, keeping control would become a full-time job in of itself. Certainly not a good time for you to be seen flirting with someone.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
You have no idea how politics work in the Fire Nation. I assure you, that won't be a problem. Though I am curious as to why you assume that a good match for me would be someone intelligent. This is purely a political arrangement, and therefore, personality characteristics are secondary. We're looking for someone with good breeding, not someone who will necessarily get along well with me.

And I don't flirt with people.

Politics have a way of being more unpredictable than one might think. As for intelligence, it'd have to be someone you could tolerate in close quarters long enough to go through the mechanics of reproduction. Given your abysmal ability to get along with people you think aren't as smart as you, I doubt you'd be willing to sleep with someone who was somehow actually significantly stupider.

If it's rumored that you have a relationship of some sort with, oh, some acrobat girl, then people will have a very easy time catching you flirting with her, whether you actually are or not.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
And as the one who hasn't grown up in a political setting and who doesn't deal with such things on a day-to-day basis, you would naturally know far more about this than I do.
I'm willing to do whatever is necessary to keep the Fire Nation in my family's hands. End of story.

Your point?

Forget it. I'll just watch what happens.

No, really. I'm interested in your thoughts.

It's time you started getting used to being disappointed.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
If you're looking for dramatics, I think you're going to be the one disappointed.
oceanicbutterfly: (oh?)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2009-01-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
You're entitled to an opinion.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
You're severely underestimating the number of Fire Nation royals who are anything but faithful to their spouses.

Cheating politicians, of course, are exclusive to your world.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Is it considered par for the course where you come from?

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2009-01-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Why would I know? You're the one with experience in politics.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't mean that I'm an expert on your country's culture.

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2009-01-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
This comes as a total surprise, of course.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Your sarcasm is getting grating.

OOC

And wow, that icon takes on a totally different meaning in this context.

Karen's cheating on Nozomi with Urara, or vice versa.

...I think. I'm actually pretty tired too.
