I have come to the conclusion that Christmas is idiotic.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, peoplesprincess sent to me...
Twelve shia_o_shimas lightningbending
Eleven pinkmoodswings ruling
Ten flamingofudas a-fighting
Nine justin_of_parms commanding
Eight hiddenqueens a-lightning
Seven fuzzyrats a-lying
Six nicecollarbones a-firebending
Five se-e-e-ervants
Four not eclipses
Three giving orders
Two hot baths
...and a manipulation in an astronomy.
Get your own Twelve Days:

In 2009, peoplesprincess resolves to...
Cut down to ten not eclipses a day.
Take evening classes in logic.
Pay for my servants on time.
Tell my family about giving orders.
Go commanding three times a week.
Admit my true feelings to wildest_card.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

Fire Nation holidays are much more purposeful- and probably a good deal more enjoyable, too.

While Christmas is celebrated in the vast majority of homes across the world, it seems the meaning of the holiday is often misunderstood. It's a a religious holiday, the intent of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, into this world. The world has been a much better place since he was born in Bethlehem on that day long ago. The life, and death, of Jesus altered the course of history more than any other person who has ever lived.

On an earthly level, his service to humanity has been a great leap forward that reverberates to this day. While he has been a leading inspiration for advancements in Western culture, in science, in medicine, and in the arts, we also know Jesus as the greatest social reformer ever to walk the earth. Before his birth, the world had little compassion for women, the sick, the lame, the elderly, or for human life in general. His revelation that all people are equal before God, and that all people have basic God-given rights and freedoms, were major reasons for the founding of democracy.

On a personal level, his life enriches people today, and tells them that death is not the end. His inspiration leads people to act beyond their own self-interest. Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
... I see. I hadn't realized that it had religious connotations.

I take it that you're Christian, then.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also a winter festival, the most popular festival of the year in many cultures.

Me? why should I be?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Why would winter need a festival.

You spoke so highly of the religion.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Because of the fact that less agricultural work needs to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.

I just wanted to explain you what was it about for some people. Kuroba don't see it that way because Christmas in Japan is quite different from the Chrismas celebrated in most countries in which the population has a large percentage of Christians or a Christian heritage. Only 1/2 of 1% of the Japanese population is estimated to be Christian, with the majority of Japanese being tolerant of all faiths: Buddhism, Christianity, Shinto, etc. In spite of this, the Japanese are great lovers of festivals and celebrations, including Christmas.

December 25th is not a national holiday in Japan, although December 23rd, which is the birthdate of the present emperor, is. My father is Japanese, not Christian, but he celebrates Christmas. My mother is British and Christian, but she never liked celebrations like that much.

(ooc: and he's not really answering the question about if he is or not Christian >:3)

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't merit a celebration.

Well. You're just a wealth of information, aren't you.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't look at me, I didn't decided it. We also celebrate the summer solstice.

Yes, I am. you can never learn too much.

Yeah, that was really great. What a guy. Jesus.

I didn't know you bought into that crap, Saguru.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this a common point of contention on worlds with the religion?

[identity profile] tyki-tock.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fan of Christianity, partly because the disciples of God and his son (Jesus) have done quite a lot to piss me off lately. Like nearly getting me killed. I certainly have no interest in celebrating the wonderful things he did in his life in the name of his murderous father.

It's a sore point today. Rather like the large sword wound in my chest.

However, I do intend to celebrate Christmas in an entirely secular fashion, this year. I've discovered that in modern times it has lost much of its religious connotations and that pleases me greatly. I intend to indulge in the rampant commercialism destroying the fabric of society.

As such, look for a rather large box to be delivered to your palace in a week or so.

Mysterious, unmarked packages are disposed of.

I don't like the idea of someone controlling my life. I believe in Darwin's Theory Of Evolution, because it give us proof, but at the same time, and more since I joined the community, I can't reject the idea of the existence of gods. So I'm an atheist, not in the affirmation of the nonexistence of gods, but on the explicit position of the rejection of theism.

It's fine Tyki, you don't need to thank me. Just take care of yourself, and Zechs. Even if I knwo that he will be fine as long as you are too.

he's still angry that I destroyed the ZERO?

And I should apologize to you, I helped him to built it.

I hate that, too. Who's Darwin?

I never doubted the existence of God, so I guess I'm an atheist the same way as you are.

I want to thank you, Saguru, and you don't need to apologize. You didn't know, and I don't blame you for helping him. You probably saved his life by doing what I asked you to do, and the rest of it wasn't your fault.

I like to think that my destiny it's on my own hands.

Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist, who demonstrated that all species of life have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process of natural selection.Darwin did not share the racism common at that his time. He was strongly against slavery, against "ranking the so-called races of man as distinct species", and against ill-treatment of native people. Writers used natural selection to argue for various, often contradictory, ideologies such as laissez-faire dog-eat dog capitalism, racism, warfare, colonialism and imperialism. However, Darwin's holistic view of nature included "dependence of one being on another", thus pacifists, socialists, liberal social reformers and anarchists such as Prince Peter Kropotkin stressed the value of co-operation over struggle within a species. Darwin himself insisted that social policy should not simply be guided by concepts of struggle and selection in nature.

I don't really need anything at the moment, Tyki, but thanks for the offer. Maybe once I talk to Akako and she kill me for hurting myself you can help Aoko to find my corpse. Akako will be already torturing my soul, but my father will appreciate something to bury.

Zechs is..a complicate person. I still want to be his friend if he wants. even if I hate it when he call me boy

((occ:I don't really know how the x-potions works, they can cure broken bones? or jsut act like painkillers?)
