OOC Questions Meme

I've seen this around (not anytime recently, but still... *has been stalking some characters' backdated entries*), and figured it might be a good, more serious contrast to the semi-cracky IC question meme below.

If anyone has any questions regarding my character, ask here. You can ask why I play them the way I do, why they do certain things, what their usernames mean, about their canon, whatever. This is just all-out discussion.

You can ask the questions either ICly or OOCly, but all answers will be OOC.

Do you think Azula would have cracked if Mai and Ty Lee had stayed with her?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
HMMMM. I think it's likely, if only because of how hard she is to please so much of the time-- she was never going to be able to completely obliterate their ties (especially Mai's) to Zuko/the Gaang's side, and I think that no matter what one or both of them would have done something that she would have seen as a betrayal the way she saw the Boiling Rock thing as one. If by some miracle nothing like that did happen, though, I still think she would have "cracked" if she lost the war, just like she did in canon. She's so obsessed with war, and with the Fire Nation, and with winning and being "the best"-- even without the perceived betrayal of her friends, I can't see her taking a loss that big very well at all. She might not be ridiculously paranoid or terrified that everyone would betray her if she allowed herself to trust them, but other than that... yeah.

How would she have been as Fire Lord?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For the people who loved the Fire Nation and what it was doing? She'd have been an awesome Fire Lord, at least at first. She grew up being extensively trained by Daddy so it's reasonable to assume that she knows Fire Nation government and politics through-and-through, she's skilled in military strategy, and she's good enough at commanding to get people to follow her, even large groups made up of people older and more experienced than her (as we see with the Dai Li). Still, she is prone to letting her temper get the best of her, she overreacts to things, and it clearly doesn't take that much for her to start cracking-- so while she can obviously handle and accomplish far more than the average teenager, she's far from invincible, and there would be a point at which the pressure would get to be too much, especially if Ozai wasn't there to support her and keep her focused on the task at hand. Also, unless she had time to mature and grow into the role, I can see her growing bored with the more mundane day-to-day tasks of running a government-- she'd want to be out there in the thick of things, even during times when it would be more prudent for a national leader to stay back and control things from the war room rather than the battlefield.

Would she have been a better person if her mother had been more loving towards her?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends. I personally believe that much more of the blame for Azula's upbringing should be given to Ozai, rather than Ursa (though she was far from a perfect mother regardless). If Ozai's influence had been lessened, Azula likely would have benefited from a better relationship with Ursa-- but if Ozai's presence was a strong as ever and Azula still enthusiastically followed in his footsteps, Ursa probably wouldn't have been able to affect her daughter much at all, no matter what she did.

In what sort of situation would Azula willingly admit to being wrong?

ALSO

Looking back, if she could highlight one crowning moment of her own badass, which would it be?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Admitting to being wrong: Ohhhhh god. It's probably easier for her to admit something like that to herself, because she's (usually) not exactly delusional-- she's capable of realigning her stance and reevaluating a situation if she deems it necessary. In terms of admitting it to other people, though... she has a ridiculous amount of pride, so the bigger and more important something is, the less likely she'd be willing to admit a miscalculation-- just because the more important a situation is, the more important it is to her to be ~*flawless*~ and *~perfect*~. She'd be more likely to admit a mistake for something small and inconsequential, because a mistake in that sort of thing wouldn't really mean much in the long run.

... She'd also "admit" a mistake if she was lying to try to trick or manipulate someone, but that's kind of different. :P

Crowning Moment of Badass: the takeover of Ba Sing Se. SHE LOVES TO BRAG ABOUT THAT TO PEOPLE :P

What do you think would have happened if Ursa had gotten to hang around? Would it have effected Azula growing up?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends. Even with Ursa around, Ozai would have been there too, and she was obviously always much more likely to listen to and follow her father than her mother. I can't see Ursa ever completely giving up on Azula, but if she had been able to stick around, their relationship probably would have just gotten more and more strained and Azula would have grown even less and less likely to listen to anything she had to say. Sadly, with Ozai's influence as strong as it was, I don't think Ursa's presence would have positively affected her much.

How does Azula view her appearance and its importance?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Azula considers herself to be quite good-looking, and she takes pride in her appearance-- though for her it's less a matter of vanity and more a matter of her constant strive for perfection. She isn't afraid of getting dirty or messy during a fight, for example-- but while she didn't squeal "OH MY GAWD MY HAIR!!!!" when she got covered in slurry during episode "The Drill", she got right to cleaning herself up and making herself look spotless again as soon as the battle was over. DDDevelopment has led her to calm down a bit with this, but overall, she'd still much rather be seen looking immaculate and pristine than anything else. And as far as the Fire Nation is concerned, she'd never want to be seen as anything less in front of her citizens (or enemies).
