(no subject)

I have come to the conclusion that Christmas is idiotic.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, peoplesprincess sent to me...
Twelve shia_o_shimas lightningbending
Eleven pinkmoodswings ruling
Ten flamingofudas a-fighting
Nine justin_of_parms commanding
Eight hiddenqueens a-lightning
Seven fuzzyrats a-lying
Six nicecollarbones a-firebending
Five se-e-e-ervants
Four not eclipses
Three giving orders
Two hot baths
...and a manipulation in an astronomy.
Get your own Twelve Days:

In 2009, peoplesprincess resolves to...
Cut down to ten not eclipses a day.
Take evening classes in logic.
Pay for my servants on time.
Tell my family about giving orders.
Go commanding three times a week.
Admit my true feelings to wildest_card.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

Fire Nation holidays are much more purposeful- and probably a good deal more enjoyable, too.

Well don't look at me.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you really think that I would?

You're the same as the next human.

While Christmas is celebrated in the vast majority of homes across the world, it seems the meaning of the holiday is often misunderstood. It's a a religious holiday, the intent of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, into this world. The world has been a much better place since he was born in Bethlehem on that day long ago. The life, and death, of Jesus altered the course of history more than any other person who has ever lived.

On an earthly level, his service to humanity has been a great leap forward that reverberates to this day. While he has been a leading inspiration for advancements in Western culture, in science, in medicine, and in the arts, we also know Jesus as the greatest social reformer ever to walk the earth. Before his birth, the world had little compassion for women, the sick, the lame, the elderly, or for human life in general. His revelation that all people are equal before God, and that all people have basic God-given rights and freedoms, were major reasons for the founding of democracy.

On a personal level, his life enriches people today, and tells them that death is not the end. His inspiration leads people to act beyond their own self-interest. Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival.

Seeing as you're talking about it? Yes.

[ooc; OH GOD IT BLINKED AND I ALMOST SCREAMED. ]

Ey, Miss Trish.

You really managed to help Tyki. Are you ok?

[identity profile] fillmydarksoul.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I'm fine! It wasn't that hard, but they were annoying as hell though.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually am not, though I suppose I can't expect someone like you to recognize that fact.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
... I see. I hadn't realized that it had religious connotations.

I take it that you're Christian, then.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about its pointlessness, not extolling its virtues. Read more carefully next time.

Apathy means that you do not advocate against it.

OOC

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also a winter festival, the most popular festival of the year in many cultures.

Me? why should I be?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Which I don't.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You just said that you were.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Why would winter need a festival.

You spoke so highly of the religion.

TRISH DOES NOT APPROVE

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
In what world is calling something pointless the same as actively advocating against it?

[identity profile] tyki-tock.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
...

Yeah, that was really great. What a guy. Jesus.

I didn't know you bought into that crap, Saguru.

AZULA DOES!

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this a common point of contention on worlds with the religion?

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I did not say "actively" did I? At any rate, if you hate non-Fire Nation holidays, the Solstice is coming upon the planet, and everyone celebrates it.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because I don't celebrate them doesn't mean I hate them. In reality, I have no opinions either way.
